The Cape Peninsula University of Technology’s (CPUT) District Six campus is grappling with an accommodation crisis, leaving many students stranded and desperate.
Some students who traveled from outside the province have seen their hopes of securing on-campus housing dashed.
CPUT spokesperson Lauren Kansley confirmed that some students are still awaiting placements but noted that many of the remaining applicants face issues with registration, funding and accommodation.
Kansley says, “The system works if you work the system. So, people have applied on time, they are very safe and happily in residence because they did all the appropriate things at the correct time. What we have is a situation where applicants, not necessarily students, have arrived at our door in the hopes of being accepted for study at CPUT but they do not have a place to study, they do not have a place to stay, they merely wish to do that.”
