The Mayor of Amathole District Municipality (ADM), Cllr Nomfusi Nxawe, who was involved in a fatal road crash a few weeks ago was discharged from hospital on Wednesday evening.
Family spokesperson Siya Rexe said, “She’s doing great. She is happy to be walking on her own again and looking forward to recovering at the comfort of her home and family. We are also very happy as the family. As we welcome her back from hospital, our thoughts and prayers are still with the family that lost a loved one”.
Nxawe was in a state vehicle driven by her regular municipal driver when their vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle whose driver died.
Nxawe sustained fractures to her ribs and spinal cord. After undergoing treatment at an East London hospital she has been deemed fit enough to complete the recuperation process at home. It was not immediately when she could be able to resume her duties as Mayor of ADM.
