Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to return to winning ways in the Betway Premiership this week. Amakhosi will meet Richards Bay on Wednesday and Royal AM on Sunday.

Chiefs, who have not won one of their last three matches and after a promising start to the season, are eighth on the Premiership log.

Kaizer Chiefs started their Betway Premiership campaign on a high, winning two matches.

But they have since lost twice and drawn once in five matches. Amakhosi are currently eighth on the log, 14 points off the pace, and defender Given Msimango knows they cannot afford to drop more points.

Kaizer Chiefs defender Given Msimango says, “The gap is there for everyone to see especially since our archrivals are sitting at the top so we need to do well in the next two games but the most important one is against Richards Bay and for us to bring a game and go and get the results.”

Amakhosi have been busy during the FIFA international break. They have been playing friendly matches and even won the Home of Legends exhibition four-team tournament in the Eastern Cape, beating their bitter rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in the final.

Coach Nassredine Nabi says the victory will boost the players’ confidence.

“That tournament was a good reflection of the players for the performances, it was not the official game it was a friendly tournament but it has brought confidence to some players and we welcome that.”

Amakhosi will be without captain Inacio Miguel for their matches against Richards Bay and Royal AM.

He’s serving a suspension. Bafana Bafana defender Rushwine Dortley is likely to be partnered by Given Msimango or Thatayaone Dithlokwe, but Dortley says the defence will not be severely affected.

“It doesn’t really affect anything because everyone is involved when we are doing defensive drills and everyone is on the same page everyone knows what their job is and what is required.”

Both Chiefs’ matches this week will be played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
