African National Congress (ANC) Treasurer-General Gwen Ramokgopa has called on all South Africans to pray for gender-based violence (GBV) to come to an end.
This call comes as the 2024 National Day of Prayer was observed at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg.
The event is hosted by the Motsepe Foundation.
Ramakgopa says as the country is in the middle of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, more needs to be done to stop the scourge.
She says, “We are joined in one spirit, the spirit of faith should be used to unite a nation and not divide it. We are here on the 1st of December and it is a day we focus on HIV and AIDS and TB and we want to thank God for the progress we have made as a country. We are also in the middle of 16 days of gender-based violence and femicide and we want to encourage our nation to really pray that this comes to an end.”
