The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has strongly condemned an alleged racist incident that occurred at a store in Fourways in Gauteng on Sunday.
According to ATM National Spokesperson, Zama Ntshona, a couple allegedly referred to black patrons as “baboons”.
Ntshona emphasized that racism is a serious crime against humanity, and a blatant violation of the Bill of Rights.
He expressed deep concern over persistent incidents of racism in various sectors, including schools, universities, and communities, highlighting the urgent need for collective action to address the issue.
“The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) continues to receive numerous complaints on daily basis, underscoring the severity of this crisis. We reject the resurgence of white supremacy and the entitlement that fuels dehumanizing rhetoric allowing this hatred to persist. [This] contributes to the revival of a divided society. We demand criminalisation of racism in South Africa coupled with the harshest sentence as possible,” says Ntshona.
