BCM HotNews – Mayor launches massive clean-up and safety campaign

Xola Pakati hard at word cleaning his city

EAST LONDON – Many parts of the City have been targeted for cleaning and rooting out illegal dumping sites which are becoming a common feature in many of our commercial and residential areas.

This is part of the City’s plan to keep the Metro clean and also part of the presidential Clean and Safe South Africa Campaign which is spearheaded by the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA).

This programme will be launched by the President on the Republic Cyril Ramaphosa at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium early March.

Speaking about the build-up campaign, the Executive Mayor Xola Pakati said: “We have therefore designed a build-up programme for this launch but also as part of the efforts that we were pursuing as a city in keeping the City Clean. This programme will be led by the political leadership of the Municipality. It is important to indicate that Municipal Services is fully responsible for cleaning the areas identified and ensure that illegal dumps and grass cutting is done across the city.”

The campaign is launched in an effort to get communities involved in keeping our Metro clean, the build-up is held in various busy areas such as taxi ranks, schools and market places should be the primary targets of the activities to be led by the leadership.

The activities include the litter picking at various schools including Mzokhanyo High School in Duncan Village, Mzamowethu Public School in Mzamomhle, Bhisho High School in Bhisho and Hlokoma High School in Mdantsane.
