Friends of slain Chesnay Keppler have described her as a loving and fun person to be around. The 22-year-old was brutally murdered after her police officer boyfriend allegedly shot her several times following a domestic dispute on Thursday last week.

The accused is currently in hospital under police guard, after an attempted suicide when he was arrested for the alleged murder.

Keppler’s two friends paid tribute to her.

“She was always the kind of person that will stare at you and tell you that you are so pretty. She was always the one to tell us how much she loves us,” says of the friends.

“I want you to be in peace, Chesnay. It’s hard to not think about you, no matter what I do, I can still hear your laughter. I will always be grateful for the fact that we always reminded one another that we loved each other,” says another friend.

Gauteng Acting Premier, Lebogang Maile says the murder of Chesnay Keppler is a harsh reminder that Gender-based Violence (GBV) is an ongoing war in South Africa.

Maile was speaking at the memorial service of the slain 22-year-old in Eldorado Park, South of Johannesburg.

Maile says they have to find an everlasting solution to the issue of GBV.

“Unfortunately, we are here to bid farewell to our daughter and sister who perished at the hands of a man who she not only trusted, (but) has once loved immeasurably. In our country, thousands of women die every year in the hands of men who are supposed to protect them from harm. In this case, the true horror is that such a man was an officer of the law,” says Maile.
