Kaizer Chiefs have suffered their fourth defeat of the season in eight matches.

Chiefs lost 2-0 to Polokwane City at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday.

Chiefs who were lying ninth on the Betway Premiership log needed a win to improve their position on the log.

The last time they were in action Chiefs squandered a 2-0 lead and ended up drawing 2-all with Royal AM at this venue.

But Amakhosi came up against a formidable Polokwane City who were seated comfortably in the top eight bracket.

The home side were the first to threaten to score in the opening fifteen minutes. It did not come as a surprise when City took the lead through Bafana Bafana forward Oswin Appollis in the 17th minute.

An attempt by Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart in the 29th minute went narrowly wide.

Mduduzi Shabalala also failed to find the target nine minutes before half-time.

Early in the second half, it looked like Tebogo Potsane was brought down inside the box, but referee waved play on.

Chiefs continued piling up the pressure as they were in search of an equalizer.

Potsane was unlucky to be denied by the upright eight minutes from time.

Mokibelo Ramabu made it 2-0 for the home side in the 90th minute.
