Traditional leaders’ organisation, Contralesa, has denounced the conduct of a traditional leader seen in a viral video assaulting two women.
Contralesa President Chief Mathupa Mokoena says the traditional leader must be arrested for bringing his family and the traditional institution into disrepute.
“Contralesa is reeling with shock from the conduct of one traditional leader from Shologa in the Eastern Cape who was seen assaulting two defenceless elderly women. This traditional leader brought the institution into disrepute. It is a shame and embarrassing for a man in that position to behave that way. He does not deserve to behave that way. Contralesa calls upon the royal family to seriously consider whether this man deserves to continue and be a traditional in that royal family. Contralesa is saddened by the action by this particular man. We call upon our courts to deal with this man very harshly and show no mess,” says Mokoena.
Eastern Cape police have traced this 29-year-old suspect. He is arrested and currently in police custody. He is expected to appear before the Elliotdale Magistrates Court on Monday, 03 February 2025 on an assault charge. pic.twitter.com/0xWYIWFl6D
