Legal analyst Mpumelelo Zikalala says the High Court in Pietermaritzburg still needs to hear the matter between King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and Queen Ntokozo kaMayisela Zulu.
The queen was set to file an application for an urgent interdict to stop the wedding of the King to Nomzamo Myeni. This is despite the wedding being called off.
In court papers, Queen KaMayisela says that she is married to the King in a civil union.
She also argues that the King would have committed bigamy had the wedding gone ahead.
Zikalala explains what is likely to happen in court: “It basically means that the matter will still be enrolled, it’s still dated up until the parties instituted come to court to tell the court that the matter has been settled. They could also tell the court that they are happy with the response that has been given for procedural purposes.”
He adds: “They still need to come to court and update the court on what will be the way forward. Either it will be an out-of-court settlement or just the confirmation of the order that has been granted. But they still need to come to court, unless then they will write to the registrar and to the judge that it’s all sorted out and all the settlement in agreement in order of the court and make it as if the matter is done.”
