The Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Rights Commission (CRL) says it will review its findings on alleged human rights violations at the KwaSizabantu Christian Mission near Kranskop in northern KwaZulu-Natal decades ago.

In 2020, the commission held hearings on allegations of sexual abuse, negligence and fraud at KwaSizabantu.

The commission’s Chairperson, Thoko Mkhwanazi Xaluva says the hearings did not do justice to the victims.

She says they have therefore asked them to come forward to discuss ways of assisting them, “But as the new commission, we are saying we asking them to give us a second chance to relook at the situation and their complaints and to find out exactly how we can work together so that we ensure that no one can experience what they experienced when they were in the KwaSizabantu Mission. We are hoping the complainants will come back and we can talk.”

SABC News reached out to KwaSizabantu Mission officials who said they were yet to look at the statement and will engage their lawyers before commenting on the matter.
