Daily Dispatch reporters have turned on the other side of the camera with their protest against low salaries.
The reporters had a protest outside their Beacon Bay offices on Thursday which was supposedly a sign of protest against the company’s refusal to pay them bonuses. A reporter who has been with the newspaper for over five years said they have not had bonuses in the past five years. “We were told that salary increases have been frozen and while we were trying to get unions we were told that the company (Tiso Blackstar) will retrench people. The titles that will be affected will be the Daily Dispatch, Herald and Sowetan,” the Dispatch reporter said. HotNews has been informed that the reporters from the Dispatch will have a total shutdown on Monday. The newspaper recently lost its young editor SBU Ngalwa and digital editor Phumza Sokana.
At the time of writing HotNews was still trying to get hold of Dispatch editor Chiara Charter. This is a developing story. Charter was the deputy editor and within months became the editor.
