Some people in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal say they feel that AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini is a poor custodian of the Zulu culture because of the way in which his marital affairs and planned wedding to Nomzamo Myeni are playing out in public.
Several people of Zulu origin have said that such royal affairs are usually dealt with in private, saying it would be seen as untoward for ordinary people to even voice an opinion on such matters.
King Misuzulu filed papers to divorce Queen Ntokozo kaMayisela Zulu at the end of last year.
Amid a court challenge, he called off the announced wedding to Myeni that was meant to take place this weekend. However, within days she was by his side at the commemoration of the Battle of Isandlwana.
King Misuzulu wedding court case:
“I mean that, like, there are lots of scandals, lots of dramas that are attracting the Zulu nation. And at the end of the day, it’s the whole nation that’s getting affected. It’s not just the royal house. You understand? ” says a resident.
“There’s actually nothing wrong with actually marrying someone that actually has kids out of wedlock. But then it’s actually taboo for African people. However, we live in a society that is so blended that you end up raising someone else’s kid. Which is what the Zulu monarch was trying to do. But in the end he is actually not filling us in. Why would you start something and not finish it? asks another resident.
