Some shoppers in Durban are thinking ahead and are already making purchases ahead of the new school year.
They say they want a stress-free entry into the new year.
Nelly Khubheka is urging other parents to be responsible with their cash.
“It’s Christmas Eve. I decided to do the right thing, shopping for uniforms for my son. He’s going to high school before I can be partying and buying beverages. I make sure I have done the stationery; we have done the uniform. I am urging all parents to do the right thing. because in January we listen, but we don’t transfer. Let’s enjoy the holidays doing the right thing.”
Store manager of Gem Schoolwear in Durban, Mohammed Patel is also urging parents to spend wisely and to prioritize what’s important for their families.
“A lot of people have been shopping early and buying their school uniforms. School expenses are quite high now compared to the old days, school fees and uniforms cost a lot, so a lot of people come and shop early so come January they are not cash strapped and they’ve spent everything on outdoor activities and food etc.”
