The Eastern Cape Education Department has deregistered a Matatiele-based school, following the refusal of its management to cooperate in an investigation into the rape of a seven-year-old learner.

The incident happened in October last year.

Education MEC Fundile Gade has accused the principal of delaying tactics.

“Once they don’t comply with the issues of legislation, then you have a right to revoke the licence of operation and also revoke the issue of the subsidy, and that’s what we have done to the school. We served them this morning, and we wanted to make sure that within 24 hours, either they go to the High Court in Mthatha so that they clarify the matter, and if they do so, they will be doing exactly what.”
