The murder case involving a widow to a Metro Police Officer in Ekurhuleni, Banele Sikhosana, has been postponed to Friday for further investigations.
The wife of the officer, Sibongile Dlamini, is alleged to have arranged a hit on her husband, who was shot dead in cold blood in Kwa-Thema, Ekurhuleni, during the early hours of 7 February.
One of the suspects appeared alongside the widow after she was arrested last week Friday, a day before her husband’s funeral.
“As a city we are actually looking at a PR exercise that we must embark on that is aimed at educating people about the importance of protecting the men and women in blue. Banele is killed hardly a month after the killing of another officer in Tembisa – a traffic warden in the EMPD. So, that tells you that there is a problem and the consequences could be different and the issues behind the killings could be different. But the bottom line is that we have lost members of the EMPD and that actually minimizes our strength in terms of fighting crime,” says City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.
