The Bakwena Toll Route management says it has put in additional measures to enhance road safety this Easter.
The route includes the N1, which runs north from Tshwane to Bela-Bela, and the N4, stretching westwards from Tshwane through Rustenburg and Zeerust, up to the Botswana border.
Spokesperson Charmaine Van Wyk says their busiest toll gate, the Pumulani Plaza heading towards Polokwane, is already recording traffic volumes of around 1 800 vehicles per hour.
Van Wyk says extra patrol vehicles have been deployed to assist during the Easter long weekend.
“We have ensured all our lanes are open. We do have a minor road closure on the N4 and that’s between the Brits Toll Plaza and the M17 bridge. We’ve got a left lane closure roughly for 2 kilometres and we do have additional patrol vehicles. We have added on our existing patrol to our routes. We have authorities on those routes for visible policing to assist with crash scenes and motorist in distress.”
