A fire has broken out in an informal settlement in Sea Cow Lake in Durban.

It is believed that about 100 shacks have been affected. The eThekwini Fire Department has managed to extinguish the fire to prevent it from spreading.

The total number of damaged dwellings has not yet been confirmed.

eThekwini Fire’s Divisional Commander, Reagan Gunkel says, “Due to the large extent of the fire, additional resources were deployed. Firefighters worked hard to bring the fire under control. Even though 50 to 100 shacks were affected, firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to other shacks.”
