This according to the Provincial Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA).
In one incident, it is alleged that a mudslide crashed into a house with a family of four inside.
Emergency Services say two children managed to escape, leaving the parents trapped inside the house.
In a separate incident, one person was buried beneath mud and rubble when a landslide crashed into their house.
The department also confirmed that there is a child missing.
COGTA MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi says disaster teams are on the ground assisting affected communities following heavy overnight rains across the province.
The hardest hit areas are mostly in the south of the province where several infrastructure collapses and flooded roads have been reported.
Buthelezi says disaster management teams are searching for bodies buried beneath mudslides near Amanzimtoti.
Residents have been urged to heed weather warnings and exercise caution during inclement weather.
Several roads are flooded across the city due to heavy rains in the province.
