Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, will oversee the opening of the new Gauteng College of Nursing Council (GCON) on Friday at the Bonalesedi Campus in Leratong Hospital on Gauteng’s West Rand.
The council’s primary goal is to produce skilled, compassionate, and competent nurses to serve in Gauteng’s healthcare system.
Gauteng Health spokesperson, Motalatale Modiba, says the initiative will ensure that the province produces well-trained nurses equipped to serve in both primary and specialised healthcare settings.
“This is the second council to be inaugurated following the amalgamation of the previous four colleges to form one entity called the Gauteng College of Nursing, that has since been put in place. So we, the council, plays a significant role in that it is responsible for overseeing the governance, strategic direction and policy development of the nursing college.”
