The Gelvandale community in Gqeberha will hold a peaceful march on Sunday to protest against police killings. This follows the tragic shooting of 29-year-old Constable Callan Andrews and the robbery of his service pistol.

He succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.

Hawks spokesperson Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana says two suspects aged between 17 and 18 have been arrested and are due to appear in Gelvandale Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

“During the time of the incident, the officer was at Voisen Road Khathanga Galvandale, Gqeberha, attending to a complaint where an unknown suspect grabbed his service pistol and fatally wounded him. Police official was rushed to the nearest hospital where he was declared deceased as he succumbed to the bullet wound.

“Through intelligence investigation by the Hawks led to the arrest of the suspects at Gqeberha and they are due to appear before Galvandale Magistrate Court on 6 January 2025. The arrests are imminent as the matter is still under investigation and further details will not be divulged on the matter,” Mhlakuvana adds.
