City Power CEO Tshifularo Mashava addressed the media in Fordsburg, Johannesburg, this morning on the entity’s operations and new developments.
Mashava says some of the infrastructure is over 90 years old and needs to be replaced.
“We’ve got old infrastructure and unfortunately, with old infrastructure, it means you’re going to lose some of the electricity through heat and sometimes while losing it because you’ve got some optimal designs. So, all in all, this is about 9% in terms of percentage for technical losses, and it’s over a billion rands in terms of the rand value that we are losing annually, which keeps on growing. At this point, it’s around R1.5 billion. And to cure that, we need to renew our infrastructure,” says Mashava.
