Kimberly residents on crime clean-up campaign

Some of the knives forcefully taken away

When they became tired of all the stabbings and armed robberies, the community of Kimberly went out on a campaign to rid the community of dangerous weapons.

Dubbed “Operation Wanya Tsotsi”, as former Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula coined it, the operation netted dozens of different knives, pangas, axes, guns and even scissors.

“We are happy that we have sent a very strong message to these criminals that their reign of terror has come to an end”, said a jubilant community leader who participated in the campaign
