The Knysna Secondary school in Hornlee in the Garden Route region of the Western Cape has embarked on an anti-bullying campaign. This after videos of two separate incidents involving violence among learners were shared on social media.
Along with the Departments of Education, Social Development, SAPS and concerned parents, they held a meeting with the message that bullying will not be tolerated.
A community leader, Jack Simons says they are outraged that learners chose to film the incident, instead of intervening.
“Our society has become so focused on the internet, on Facebook, Instagram, that they’ve left the ability to look to the need of his fellow human being. What they do is when it comes to fighting, bullying or even drugs, is they take out their phones. And all they want to do is put their own name on a Tiktok video and get likes and make money that way.”
