The province is still reeling from recent flooding an mudslides that led to 11 deaths and scores of displaced people.
KwaZulu Natal’s Cogta MEC, Thulasizwe Buthelezi, says, “Initial reports indicate that road infrastructure, in and around Ethekwini Metro, is already experiencing flooding, particularly along the M4 South, and other areas, leading on to the N3 in Ethekwini, and this highlights the severity of the situation. The South African Weather Services issued this urgent alert, due to the intensity of the anticipated rainfall and the potential for significant disruption.”

Emergency and rescue services in KwaZulu-Natal are overwhelmed with calls following persistent heavy rains across the province. A private security company has reported localized flooding in Tongaat, Phoenix, Verulam, and nearby areas north of Durban.
Reaction Unit South Africa Spokesperson, Prem Balram, confirmed that two families had to be evacuated in Verulam.
“When officers and paramedics arrived, most residents were safe. However, one family had to be evacuated after a wall collapsed in Temple Valley. Another family was stranded at a temple due to rising floodwaters and was safely evacuated, though their vehicles remained submerged,” said Balram.
