Lesufi says he will ensure that more money is allocated to the Department of Education in the new financial year.
“MEC Chiloane, I am saying all these things to say to you that if we are number 3 in the country with all the changes we have introduced and we are still amongst the best, then we must celebrate you and the team. We are adjusting and the adjustment will continue. So, come budget time, we give you first and others will share the remainder because education is the core to eliminate unemployment, inequality, crime and the challenges that we have in our country.”

Underperforming schools
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane says improving the results at under-performing schools is at the top of his agenda this year.
Chiloane says he will engage underperforming schools soon.
“As a province, we have to attend to the schools that have consistently performed below par. So, the issue of underperforming schools is something that we are resolving urgently but we must note the significant progress as well. We will be having an engagement with those schools that have underperformed.”
