The Limpopo Transport Department says it has amended its annual budget to make funds available for officers working overtime during the festive season.

Head of Department, Stephen Majena says this will ensure that there are traffic officers on the road 24 hours a day. Majena says this will promote safety and compliance on the roads.

Limpopo is expected to receive high traffic volumes on its major roads as holidaymakers travel to different destinations.

Majena has also cautioned motorists to exercise patience when traveling on the roads.

“We don’t have enough traffic officers, this year we’ve approached it differently. We’re going to have our traffic officers working 24/7 they’re going to be starting today. It’s 24/7 up until the last day of our festive period. One of the things that we’ve done, we’ve utilised data from previous years. We’ve analysed it. We do know the routes that are problematic. So we’re going to be deploying our traffic officers based on that intelligence. In terms of the data that we have, if you look at N1 we’re going to see a lot of our traffic officers there, including the traffic officers that are coming from Road Traffic Management Corporation.”
