Police Minister Senzo Mchunu says the goal is to raise more than R6.6 million for the SAPS Education Trust, which supports the education of children whose parents were officers killed in the line of duty.
Last year, the Trust funded the schooling of 18 matriculants, who collectively achieved 17 distinctions.
Mchunu participated in a fundraising golf day at the Mount Edgecombe Country Club in Durban to support the initiative.
“The Fund is aimed at looking after those left behind when an officer dies since police officers protect democracy and enable the country to work,” said Mchunu.
The Trust provides financial assistance for schooling and tertiary education for affected children.
