Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Guns Nurburgring Record?

It’s not official yet, but the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series might be the fastest production car to lap the famous Nurburgring in Germany.

Back in 2018, Lamborghini’s Aventador SVJ arrived at the gates of the ‘Green Hell’ to take care of some business, to dethrone the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and lap the ‘ring quicker than the then-record of 6:47.30. The Aventador SVJ did just that, posting a record time of 6:44.97.

Now, Lamborghini’s record is under threat from the boffins at AMG, who this week arrived at the Nurburgring to ‘test’ the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, which apart from the Mercedes-AMG One, is the most powerful V8 AMG model ever produced, boasting 537 kW and 800 Nm developed by its twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 mill. Rumours suggest that the AMG GT Black Series lapped the ring in approximately 6:43, but this figure has not been confirmed or denied by Mercedes-AMG.

While an official record run has not happened yet, as confirmed by Mercedes-AMG GT3 racing driver, Maro Engel, on Twitter, it’s highly likely that it will happen soon.

The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series has already proven its performance at Hockenheim where it proved to be faster than the McLaren 720S and Ferrari’s Pista.

Watch this space, there may very well be a new ‘King of the Ring’ crowned soon…
