The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) says the misuse of public funds is a problem that continues to plague the country.

This comes as the world marks the United Nations’ International Anti-Corruption Day on Monday.

This year’s theme underscores the vital role of young people in driving change, promoting transparency and building a future rooted in integrity.

The day was designated 21 years ago and has served as a powerful global reminder of the need to combat corruption.

Outa’s Executive Director for Accountability and Public Governance, Stefanie Fick says, “The fact that we still see abuse of abuse taxpayers’ money – we haven’t managed our funds, and how we use our funds correctly.”

“This whole question about ethical leadership- we have just seen the [former] Minister of Justice [Thembi Nkadimeng], who should have been removed – [but] was just moved from one portfolio to another. I think the minute we sort out those types of things, I think we can say that we are on the right path to curb corruption.”
