The Border Management Authority (BMA) says more than 50,000 travellers have passed through the Lebombo Port of Entry this long weekend.

Lebombo reported smooth operations with no significant incidents or challenges recorded with the rise in traffic during the festive season.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Mmemme Mogotsi says they are working closely with other law enforcement authorities to ensure that both trade and travel through Lebombo are handled with maximum efficiency.

“The processing of cargo on both arrival and departure continues as normal, with efficient facilitation ensuring seamless movement of goods. Similarly, traveller movements in both directions are flowing without disruptions, reflecting the authority’s preparedness for the busy holiday season. Backlog of trucks that were on the N4 has been cleared, together with traffic on the corridor towards the Port of Entry.”

Meanwhile, the Limpopo Transport Department says there is no heavy traffic congestion on the N1, and major routes compared to the same period last year.

This is as travellers are heading to various destinations during the festive season holidays.

“Relatively this year, traffic is not heavy unlike previous years. We tried to observe the traffic since morning, it has never recorded anything more than 1,500. It was below 1,000 but the highest was 1,006 which generally, we are able to manage. And surprisingly, we observed that the transport going to the north is increasing unlike the previous years in comparison to the traffic going to the south,” says department’s Chief Traffic Officer, Simon Kekana.
