A ninth witness for the state has been called to the stand in the Joshlin Smith kidnapping trial in the Western Cape High Court sitting in Saldanha.
Kelly Smith, her boyfriend, Jacquen Apollis and Steveno van Rhyn are facing charges of kidnapping and human trafficking.
Seven-year-old Joshlin went missing from her Middlepos home in Saldanha a year ago.
Kelly was employed as a domestic worker for the witness, Kelly Zeegers.
She also worked as a domestic for Zeeger’s mother, who testified on Monday.
Both witnesses implied that they were aware of Smith’s drug addiction and were trying to help her by giving her a job.
Zeegers told the court about a conversation she had with Kelly about Joshlin’s alleged whereabouts following her disappearance.
“She mentioned something about foreigners which I really didn’t take note about, but she insisted we must go to Marikana. She thinks her child hasn’t left the area as yet.”
