Orlando Pirates have defeated Betway premiership tail-enders Magesi to close the gap in the log between them and log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Buccaneers beat 10-men Magesi by 1-0 in a league encounter played at the fully packed Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo yesterday.

Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says he has a good team which will enable him to write new history for the club.

Riveiro says, “Is just one way closer to an exceptional 2024 for the club. The team is competing very well. We are trying to play our best football. We really ambitious as we want to grow. We want to write our own history with Pirates. We play five or six players from our own development that is something very special for all of us, for our fans as well.”

Magesi’s loss has deteriorated their situation in the log as they continued with a winless streak.

Dikwena tsa meetse squandered an opportunity to equalise when they failed to score a penalty.

Magesi’s interim coach Papi Zothwane says it was not easy with one man down.

Zothwane says, “Immediately after the red card, two minutes from there, we get a penalty but our boys because of efforts they put in, we didn’t show. Like obviously, you will always want to have all your players on the field, there is nothing we can do, we have to move forward from this and whichever coach that comes in our team we will definitely work with him.”
