Scores of fans lined the streets in Polokwane, Moletjie and Mankweng to welcome the Carling Knockout Cup champions, Magesi Football Club.
The club which has been dubbed “The Giant Killers” presented the trophy to Moletjie Traditional Authority.
Magesi defeated Soweto giants Orlando Pirates, TS Galaxy, Richard’s Bay, and Mamelodi Sundowns to win their first-ever Carling Black Label Cup.
It was goals from Tshepo Kakora and Delano Abrahams that saw “Dikwena tsa Meetse” emerging victorious on Saturday. Magesi’s fans, Stimela Maosa and Girlie Maboko say the team has put them on the map. “It is very much fantastic to the family of Magesi and the community of Moletjie and around Polokwane and Limpopo I am very very much excited… We love Magesi we encourage our children to go to the grounds and take soccer seriously.”
Limpopo MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture, Jerry Maseko says they will continue to support teams that are based in the province.
“Our core function is sports development we give them equipment and we ensure that we have tournaments and call big teams to scout many of our players at the professional level due to our department initiative and we have a department like LEDA that helps the three teams with a million each per annum at least what they can afford.”
