Residents of Moretele in North West affected by flooding

The Moretele Local Municipality in the North West says it is assisting hundreds of families trapped in their homes due to flooding caused by recent heavy rains. The Moretele Local Municipality in the North West says it is assisting hundreds of families trapped in their homes due to flooding caused by recent heavy rains.

According to the municipality, a bridge in Kroomkuil is on the verge of collapsing. Areas affected include Moeka, Maubane, Mmotla, Carousel View and Mathibestad.

Municipal spokesperson Mothupi Malebye says the municipality is collaborating with the local disaster management team and stakeholders to provide assistance to the affected communities.

“A bridge is near collapse and hundreds of people may be affected. Moretele Local Municipality mayor Clr Masango George Manyike is working together with local disaster team and stakeholders in a bid to find ways around the problem. As if is not enough another bridge in De Grens village is also near collapse. Mayor Manyike said that bridge in De Grens also raised much concerns because it is the one that local learners of Nkutlweng use when they go to school.”
