SA goalkeeper Ronwen Williams shines at 2024 CAF Awards

South Africa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was the only double winner at a star-studded 2024 CAF Awards in Marrakech, Morocco.

He collected the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year and Men’s Interclub Player of the Year Awards.

His spectacular penalty saves at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast earlier this year will live long in the memory.

The 32-year-old captained South Africa to the bronze medal and helped his club Mamelodi Sundowns to a seventh successive league title.

Williams, Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman and Zambia striker Barbra Banda were the big winners of the night.

Lookman was named CAF Men’s Player of the Year at the ceremony.

He had a sensational 12 months with Italian side Atalanta and Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Banda, the Women’s Player of the Year took the 2024 National Women’s Soccer League in the United States by storm.

She helped Orlando Pride to the NWSL Shield and the Championship title last season.

Banda also scored a hat-trick for Zambia at the 2024 Paris Olympics Games, her third in Olympic Games football.
