South Africa outscored France, the Olympic gold medalists, with four tries to 2 and restricted Les Bleu from scoring any points in the second half.
Donavan Don and Zain Davids scored for the Blitzboks in the first half, while Shilton van Wyk and David Brits dotted down in the second half.
At halftime the scores were deadlocked at 14-all.
