The ICC Champions Trophy Group B match between South Africa and Australia was abandoned without a ball bowled due to persistent rain in Rawalpindi.

The covers were on all day and not even the toss was possible.

The umpires eventually decided to call it a day just after two o’clock South African time, just more than three hours after the match was supposed to start.

The no-result means the Proteas remain top of group B with three points from two matches, the same as Australia, but with a better net run rate.

England and Afghanistan, who clash in Lahore on Wednesday, are both looking for their first win and points of the tournament.

The last round of group B matches will be played on Friday and Saturday when Australia takes on Afghanistan in Lahore and the Proteas play England in Karachi.
