The SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) in the Western Cape is investigating an alleged racist incident that occurred on a flight from Durban to Cape Town last month.
In a video that went viral on social media, an SABC employee is filmed making alleged racist remarks towards a flight attendant.
This allegedly after the flight crew refused to serve her more alcohol on the flight.
The Commission says it received numerous complaints on the incident.
The Commission’s Given Makhuvele says, the investigation aims to promote equality and prevent unfair discrimination.
“If we assess that the complaint does is a prima facie case of racism at all or hate speech, we’ve got two ways to deal with it. The first way is to propose a mediation between the two parties. Of course, mediation is always a voluntary process. The second way that we can deal with this issue is to institute a case before the Equality Court.”
