A search is continuing for a missing man who reportedly fell off a boat in the Hartbeespoort Dam in North West on Sunday.
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) says it received a report from local children after witnessing the incident near the Eagles Landing, Pecanwood Estate.
Spokesperson Craig Lambinon says witnesses have described seeing the boat turning in circles before it ran aground.
“The South African police services water policing and diving services, assisted by NSRI Hartbeespoort dam, strategic rescue unit and Hartbeespoort marine law enforcement, are continuing an ongoing search for a man missing after being witnessed falling out of a boat that ran ashore. At approximately 17h30, Sunday, the 9th of February, NSRI.
“Hartbeespoort dam duty crew was activated following a report from children who raised the alarm after they had witnessed a man falling out of his boat, near Eagles landing, Pecanwood estate. The casualty boat was reported to still be underway without a single occupant onboard. NSRI arrived on the scene and while approaching at the boat witnessed the boat running aground” Lambinon says.
