A second plane has landed in the country with more injured South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers evacuated from the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Three of the critically injured ones arrived in the country last night.
Last month, 14 South African soldiers were killed in fighting between the M23 rebels and the Congolese military in the town of Goma.
It’s not clear how many injured SANDF members are yet to be repatriated from the DRC. The army says in coordination with other role players they have worked tirelessly to ensure the safe return of our wounded members.
These soldiers are part of the peacekeeping mission in the DRC.
The SANDF also urges the public to respect and afford privacy to the injured soldiers and their families during the healing process.
