Authorities have identified a seventh victim in the Zanzou nightclub assault case. This development was revealed during a brief court appearance by the accused at the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The suspect faces 14 charges, including compelled sexual assault and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The case stems from a widely circulated video showing men being physically and sexually assaulted at the popular Pretoria nightclub. His identity remains undisclosed, pending an upcoming identity parade for the latest complainant.
The state requested a postponement after a new victim came forward and gave a statement on Sunday. The accused will now undergo another identity parade.
Speaking outside court, MK Party Gauteng Provincial Spokesperson Bafana Mahlabe urges more victims to come forward.
“We encourage more of them to come out because we believe this is not an isolated incident. It’s widespread. There are even serious allegations of people losing their lives in some of these establishments. This matter must be taken seriously, and we urge the media to investigate further.”
Mahlabe also calls for more arrests, including the owners of Zanzou.
“Police must act swiftly and ensure all those responsible are arrested. The net must be cast wider – not just those who committed the acts but also the establishment’s owners. These incidents could not have happened without their knowledge.”
The case returns to court on the 28th of this month for a formal bail application, which the state has confirmed it will oppose.
