Sinner joined in the last eight by his unseeded countryman, Lorenzo Sonego.
Sonego beat American teenager Learner Tien 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinal of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in his 12-year professional career.
Meanwhile, there was an upset in the fourth round of the women’s singles at Melbourne Park.
Two-time semi-finalist, 19th seed Maddison Keys of the United States, knocked out sixth seed, Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan, in three sets.
In another completed match, 28th seed Elina Svitolina of the Ukraine beat the unseeded Veronika Kudermetova of Russia 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open for the third time in her career.
