Head of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Advocate Andy Mothibi says those who commit acts of corruption and take assets to other member states can be traced.

This as the 15th Commonwealth Regional Conference of Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa continues in Cape Town today.

This conference unites leaders from 21 African nations to develop actionable strategies under the theme: “Enhancing Inclusive Participation of State and Non-State Actors to Prevent and Combat Corruption”.

The conference will run until Friday.

Mothibi says they are now turning to use of technology to secure good results of their work.

“An important part as we discussed yesterday, was the use of technology. Because as you know, cyber space has really been used by those white-collar crimes, corruption and fraud. So, we have been sharing some of the developments here.”

“We have got an expert from UK who have presented around the use of AI. And out of that there’s going to be a program, where because at SIU we are already doing some data analytics … data modelling. So that we can determine the exposures and that builds towards the AI as well, the tool that we use,” explains Mothibi.
