The Garden Route District Municipality in the Western Cape says a wildfire high up in the Swartberg Mountains near Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo, remains a concern.

The fire has been burning for almost a week now. It was started by lightning strikes.

Strong, shifting winds have made firefighting efforts challenging.

Crews continue to monitor and suppress the fire, especially as it nears the De Hoek Mountain Resort’s trigger line. No infrastructure has been impacted or is currently at risk.

The region is currently experiencing a heatwave. However, cooler temperatures are expected tomorrow with rain forecast for the Garden Route, but not the Little Karoo.

Firefighting efforts continue.
