Limpopo Department of Transport says they are taking steps to alleviate congestion at toll gates. Deputy Director in the department, Simon Kekana says they have been constantly opening toll gates for motorists to pass without paying to avoid long queues.

“Today in the morning traffic was a bit low but there was an increase from eight o’clock leading to more than 1 700 up until nine o’clock with the same number. But there was a bit of a decline so what we can say is that through the assistance of the toll plaza management, where they open the tolls gates for free, giving the opportunity for ten minutes for traffic to flow, it alleviates that congestion and as a result we are able to manage the congestion.”

Kekana has also cautioned motorists to exercise patience on the road as it is raining in parts of the province.

“What we can say to our motorists is that the weather conditions are not favourable up to now, so let us be more cautious and more responsible because once you are irresponsible, there will be near bumper bashing accidents that will cause delays in the travelling time for our motorists, because we have to attend to those accidents.”
