Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Henk Lategan and his navigator, Brett Cummings, have retained the overall lead after stage five of the Dakar Rally from Alula to Ha’il.

Dacia driver, Nasser Al-Attiyah, reached the finish line first, 10 minutes before his nearest rival, another TGR driver, Seth Quintero.

But a 10-minute time penalty stripped him of the victory, and Quintero was declared the winner.

Tomorrow is a rest day for the drivers, after which the action will resume on Saturday.

Lategan says it’s been a tough few days, but that he is happy with where him and Cummings are.
