Traffic volumes on the N1 in Limpopo are on the rise as holidaymakers are returning and schools reopen on Wednesday.
Deputy Director of Transport in Waterberg District Simon Kekana says traffic towards Gauteng is backed up for three kilometres at the N1 Kranskop Toll gate near the Modimolle off ramp.
The slow-moving traffic is also exacerbated by the rainy weather.

The south direction tolls are clocking over 1,400 motor vehicles passing per hour while the north direction tolls record just below 500 vehicles per hour.

Speeding
Meanwhile, a 45-year-old driver has been arrested for allegedly driving at 195 kilometres per hour in a 120 zone on the N1 near Bela-Bela in Limpopo.
Transport Spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene, says the driver was released on R1,500 bail and will appear in court on Wednesday.
Chuene has cautioned motorists to observe the speed limit.
“A male driver of a red Mercedes Benz was arrested this morning on the N1 Freeway near Settlers for speeding at 195 kilometres per hour on a 120 zone. He is expected to appear in the Bela Bela Magistrate’s Court soon.”
