National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola says South Africa is facing a serious challenge when it comes to transnational organised crime. He says he hopes the development of a strategic plan to curb such crimes will be successful. Some of the crimes include drug trafficking, illicit cigarette trade and theft of high-performance vehicles that are taken over the border into neighbouring countries. Masemola has been speaking at the Transitional Organised Crime Strategy planning session under way in Pretoria.

“The main problem for South Africa and transitional crime is specially theft of vehicles, especially of four by 4a, SUVs out of this country to North Africa. The problem of drugs coming from outside into the country into South Africa and also our financial influence both in and out of this country where a lot of transactions happens. So, the strategy needs to clamp that. We want to deal with all that. The wildlife, and cybercrime is the biggest problem,” says Masemola.
