In recent weeks protests have erupted over the chronic shortage of students’ accommodation on campuses across the country.
“At the University of Johannesburg, I think things are being managed very well if I must say and we have about 7 000 beds on our campuses and of course one would say these are not enough beds and how do we deal with this? We have accredited over 500 student accommodations, and this provides around 25 000 beds so that has helped a lot and at the moment we are sitting at around 98 % occupancy at the UJ residences,” says UJ Vice Chancellor, Letlhokwa Mpedi.
